Well, once again technology has kicked me in the shins. I did this nice long post about my vacation and the new job and -- poof -- it disappeared like a fart in the wind. Let me try and recap the action:
Vacation: as you recall, I was going to a family reunion. One of my mother's sisters drove down, picked us up, and drove the entire way. It was about 1000 miles each way. Let's just say we won't be driving THAT trip again.
We blew into town on Friday and didn't do much but acclimate ourselves. My mom and her sister did a little growing up in this small town so we did some site-seeing of their old stomping grounds.
Saturday we ended up at one of the cousin's houses for a pool party. We ended up not getting in the pool because it was raining with lightning in the air. The house we were at was beautiful so we just sat around swapping stories about relatives (I didn't have any to share so I just listened to the tales of people I barely know -- it was okay). We were very nervous that this weather would continue into Sunday, but we lucked out.
Sunday was the actual reunion. We met at yet another cousin's house who has a nice big back yard (side yard?). Anyhow, drinks were consumed... food was eaten... more tales were told.... pictures were taken... bugs were swatted... everyone went home.
We were staying at a Bed & Breakfast, something I had never done before. It was nice but our rooms were on the 3rd floor -- lots of stair climbing. Overall, a good time was had by most.
New Job: You know, it's the little things you notice. There are differences between my old job and new job that involve major leaps and bounds in a positive direction. Other things... not so much. I could do a note-for-note comparison of those differences but I won't bore you. Let's just say I've learned to take note of the little differences and it seems to be working out in my favor.
The guy who's doing my training reminds me of a young Gregory Hines. He's a good guy and is very knowledgeable about the job. The guy who WAS in charge of the department just left and there is a lot to clean up but the company has 'deep pockets' so money doesn't seem to be an issue when something is needed. They just have a lot more figured out than the old company. Again, it's the little things.
I've been working there three days and they've got the kid gloves on now. I have a feeling in a couple weeks the gloves are going to come off and all hell is going to break loose. Hope I'm ready.
Well, that's all I can remember that I had written before. Hope it's enough.
