Blue Monday, Blue Day

I had a very strange Monday, let me take you through it: 8:29am – I arrived at work a little later than usual due to the volume of traffic that morning. There was a car on the side of the road, which seems to freak people out -- I don’t get it. 8:32am – I get to my desk to find my computer off. This is strange because I don’t turn my computer off, I usually just log off. I’m not feeling right, but I can’t explain it. 8:38am – Once my computer came up I got a weird message so I restarted it. Basically, my computer said that the PC I had known for these last few months had gone away. I spent about half an hour trying to revive it without success. 9:04am – I feel a bit numb this morning and I don’t really want to be in the office… more than usual. I feel pretty stupid with everyone knowing I’ve been laid off. 9:15am – I begin the process of re-installing the operating system on my computer. During the down time (where no action is required on my part) I decide that I have come to a f

Some Advice

I view quite a few pornographic video clips and I have some advice to offer for the directors. Some of these seem obvious but there are a lot of mistakes being made. I hope this corrects some of those: Lighting: This is a key element of visual design. If you cannot see the object in question, all is lost. Be aware of natural light. I can’t tell you how many times the subject has been backlit – which makes her a silhouette. Not good. Also be aware of where the light is coming from. I tend to see a lot of “hot spots” that appear on the girls faces which washes them out in an unflattering manner. Bottom line: lighting is critical. Camera angles: I can appreciate that some of this video is Point of view (POV) but stop with the “Batman” angles. If I have to tilt my head to watch the video correctly, that’s wrong. Keep in mind that body parts are going to move and turn during the action. A still shot that catches her knee is not what I’m looking for. Ponytails: Has nobody ever heard of ru

The Dream and The Drama

Friday started like any other work day. I got in, did my business and got out. There was a rumor floating around that one of the Customer Service girls was going to let go. She had gotten wind of it the day before and was not very happy about it, but had come to grips with the idea by the time Friday came around. She got an e-mail about noon saying the HR person wanted to see her before she left. She approached the HR guy immediately and he delayed her, saying he just wanted to talk with her before she left. She had to stew all day with the idea she might be out of a job before day’s end. The tough part of the whole scenario is that Friday was her birthday and we had already planned to celebrate. The end of business on Friday came and, in fact, she was fired. She seemed okay with the idea. I guess she HAD gotten used to the idea. So some of us went out to celebrate her birthday. It was raining lightly as we walked to the Mexican restaurant. What we figured to be 8 or 9 people turned in

You Know And I Know

It seems I haven’t written anything in a while so I’ll try and catch you up. There isn’t a whole lot going on right now, maybe that’s why I haven’t written. It’s a Thursday and I took the day off to hang out with Superman after his father passed away. At the funeral reception I’m texting this woman from work – I’ll call her Leslie. I ask her if I’m missing anything at the office and she tells me it’s a slow day. We text back and forth. Superman asks who I’m texting so I tell him. Friday night, Superman and I go to a high school football game. He lives very near the football field and his oldest son is currently enrolled at this high school… so we go and watch the game and it’s a really good time. Superman asks me who I’m texting throughout the whole game. Well, I’m texting Leslie again. Sunday comes and I’m with Superman again, this time watching pro football at his house. You guessed it: I’m texting Leslie again. So Superman says “You should ask Leslie out”. So I text her just that “M

My President Is Black

I walked into the convenience store attached to the gas station. I picked up a bottle of Coke and headed for the cash register. There were 4 people in line ahead of me (all of African-American ancestry). A moment later this black guy walks in with a big smile on his face, hoppin'-and-boppin' through the door and almost sings: "My president is black" Everyone in line and the women behind the counter started laughing. I simply smiled. The guy was roaming around the place throwing random "yeah" and "oh yeahs" around the place. Just thought I'd share.
