Hottest Women of Renovation

Following is a list of women I find very attractive who all share a common attribute: they are featured players in shows about renovation. Either they do it themselves or they are the designers or coordinators. This list is in no particular order.

Amy Matthews (Sweat Equity) – This is a recent addition to this list. The cable package I have does not include DIYNetwork but some of their shows have been ported over to HGTV. I happened to find her show on one day and – wow – she is really cute. She has this great quality to her voice and she really knows how to swing a hammer. Almost every time they mention her name, they precede it with “Licensed Contractor”. She can renovate my house any time.

Kristan Cunningham (Design On A Dime) – Kristan is an interior designer and artist who uses only $1,000 to remodel a room. Her greatest accomplishments in the shows are the “finds” on furniture and accessories at thrift stores and antique shops. She also likes to take an ordinary item and use it for something other than its intended purpose (example: she once used linoleum tiles as a kitchen ‘carpet’ runner. I had my doubts about it but it really worked). For the first dozen episodes of hers that I watched, I would say 10 of them she used a “sage-y green” wall paint.

Genevieve Gorder (Dear Genevieve) – This is another young lady who I recently found designing renovations. She looks like she should be doing something other than tearing down kitchens and busting open walls. I have to admit, she’s good at her job. Most times she takes people where they don’t really want to go but like where they end up. It seems like there’s always a shot of a nervous homeowner who has just been given the news of removing a wall. She easily reassures them, the wall is taken out, and in the end they love it.

Kelly Edwards (Design On A Dime) – I watch these renovation shows looking for ideas that I can incorporate into my own house. Most times I think “I would NEVER do that in my house”. Kelly bucks that trend. I would do her anywhere she would allow me. She is just so cute I’d like to put her on a plate and sop her up with a biscuit. On the show, she has good ideas that are met favorably with the host. I could put another joke in here about "meeting her favorably" but I'll let it go.

Candice Olsen (Divine Design) – I would love to have this woman design a room in my house just to see how much it actually costs. This is one renovation show that does not mention the word “budget”. Why? Because they’re so exquisitely well-done and over the top that people would be afraid to use her because of the cost. She has a really goofy sense of humor that is both embarrassing and endearing at the same time. If I’m not mistaken, she uses “can lights” in every renovation. Maybe that’s her trademark.

Paige Hemmis (Extreme Makeover Home Edition) – Paige is just nice to look at. I don’t think anyone will argue that. She has a big toothy grin and a nice tight body to match. The big difference between her and everyone else on this list is that this woman works! She can regularly be seen hammering studs into place (no pun intended) and sawing wood (no pun intended). Her pink hard hat is her trademark (pun TOTALLY intended).

Kahi Lee (Design On A Dime) – As you can tell, I watch DoD quite a bit. She took a long time for me to warm up to. The first few episodes I watched of her doing her thing, she seemed clunky and uncomfortable with her position as host. She definitely knows her stuff when it comes to the design elements but she almost seems fearful of the client’s reaction at the big reveal – like they’re not going to like what she’s done.

Tava Smiley (Clean Sweep) – The premise of this show is that someone has got two cluttered rooms that get cleaned out using the “keep/sell/donate” method. The homeowners go through each item and decide what happens to it. Tava reappears at then end and helps price each item that will be sold in the garage sale (as part of the show). In the right light, she looks like a poor man’s Tea Leoni. Her sheer excitement is a total turn-on and is very easy on the eyes.

Top 10 Cartoon Duo's

This time out the subject is Top 10 Cartoon Duo’s. I was only going to make this a Top 5 list but I had so many entries to work with, I added the last 5. Here’s the list is no particular order – wait, that’s not right… 10. Ren & Stimpy: Call this entry the ‘Odd Couple’ of the group. A cat and a dog (I think) living together and making their way despite their obvious instincts to be sworn enemies. I have to admit that this cartoon was hard to watch sometimes because of the ‘gross’ nature of both characters – pooping and boogers a big part of the vernacular. “Oh, Re-e-e-n?”, “Yes, Stimpy!” 9. Inspector Gadget & Penny: An uncle and his niece go around solving crimes against Dr. Claw. It was actually Gadget and his dog, Brain, that tried to solve the crimes and Penny that actually solved them. She would tell Brain the solution and that crazy dog would expend a great deal of energy trying to make the Inspector understand the solution. Finally, when Inspector Gadget would ‘stumble

High Kings vs. Celtic Thunder

I had the rare chance to compare Irish music this weekend. I caught performances by both “The High Kings” and “Celtic Thunder”. First up was HK: The show was filmed in front of an audience somewhere in Ireland. The set appeared to be a simple wooden stage that was reminiscent of a boat dock – simple and effective. There were drums on the left and a small supporting band on the right. While they played, a large video wall displayed images behind them – mostly water – setting the mood for the song they were singing at the time. The vocalists were excellent. You could tell they were really Irish by their brogues, which were honest and uncluttered. The harmonies were good and you could tell they were really singing. In the beginning of the show they made it clear that everyone should know all the words to the songs they were singing and the audience was asked to “sing up”. They started with a rousing version of “The Rocky Road To Dublin” which drew everyone in and they never let the audien

Lunch with a side of awkward

Last week I was sitting in my office wondering what to eat for lunch since I didn’t bring anything to eat. I happened to be in our break room and saw a collection of restaurant menus and began thumbing through them for suggestions. I came across a place that I had heard of but had never been to, so I decided to go there – mostly because of how close it was to the office. I walked in and looked around. The place was empty. There was a table of 4 ladies in the corner who looked like your basic bridge-playing women. Sitting in the booth next to them was another couple that looked like they were wrapping things up in order to leave. Finally a server appeared and seated me at a table across the aisle from the foursome. By then, the other couple had left. As I looked around, I noticed a lot of the place was made of or covered in wood. It’s the kind of a place you might find overlooking a body of water, but all that was outside this place was a parking lot. The server was tall, thin, dark hai
